The Chemist is responsible for ensuring the quality, safety, and compliance of packaged drinking water by conducting chemical, physical, and microbiological tests. The role involves daily monitoring of raw water, treated water, and final packaged products to ensure adherence to regulatory and internal quality standards. Key Responsibilities Water Testing & Analysis: Conduct routine testing of raw water, treated water, and final packaged product. Test parameters include pH, TDS, hardness, turbidity, conductivity, and chemical composition. Perform microbiological tests to detect coliforms, E. coli, and other contaminants. Quality Control: Ensure compliance with BIS (IS 14543) or local regulatory standards. Monitor water treatment processes (RO, UV, ozone, etc.). Maintain records of quality checks and ensure traceability of test results. Chemical Handling: Prepare reagents and manage chemical inventory for testing and treatment. Handle dosing of approved chemicals for disinfection and pH balancing. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain lab reports, quality logs, and daily water quality records. Assist in preparing reports for audits and inspections (e.g., FSSAI, BIS). Process Monitoring: Work closely with plant operators to ensure water treatment processes are functioning optimally. Calibrate and maintain lab equipment such as pH meters, turbidity meters, and spectrophotometers. Audit Support: Support internal and external quality audits.
