Job Description

Role & responsibilities

1. Hygiene & Cleaning Operations

  • Ensure

    cleaning, mopping, dusting, and sanitization

    of all areas as per hospital protocols.
  • Monitor cleanliness of

    critical areas

    (ICU, NICU, emergency, dialysis, and procedure rooms).
  • Ensure

    terminal cleaning

    after patient discharge or transfer.
  • Supervise

    biomedical waste segregation

    and disposal as per guidelines.
  • Ensure restrooms are cleaned and replenished regularly.

2. Infection Control Compliance

  • Ensure housekeeping staff follow

    infection control practices (ICP)

    .
  • Coordinate with

    the Infection Control Nurse (ICN)

    for audits and training.
  • Monitor proper usage of

    PPE, disinfectants, and approved chemicals

    .
  • Maintain

    SOPs and

    MSDS sheets, and ensure adherence to NABH standards.

3. Staff Supervision & Training

  • Allocate

    daily duties, shift schedules, and area responsibilities

    .
  • Conduct regular

    staff briefings and

    training on cleaning procedures and safety practices.
  • Ensure staff grooming, behavior, and discipline are maintained.
  • Track

    attendance, shift coverage, and manpower requirements

    .

4. Coordination & Patient Care Support

  • Coordinate with

    nursing supervisors, ward in-charges, and OT / ICU teams

    for cleaning requirements.
  • Respond to

    patient/attender complaints

    and resolve housekeeping issues promptly.
  • Ensure timely support for

    spill management, infection cleanup, and emergency cleaning

    .

5. Inventory & Equipment Management

  • Monitor stock of

    cleaning materials, chemicals, housekeeping tools, and linen

    .
  • Coordinate with Laundry for

    linen collection, distribution, and rejection handling

    .
  • Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of housekeeping equipment.
  • Raise maintenance requests where required.

6. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain

    daily checklists

    , cleaning logs, and supervisor round reports.
  • Submit

    shift reports, incident reports, and shortage reports

    to the facility/admin team.
  • Support quality audits (NABH, internal audits, safety audits).

Preferred candidate profile

  • Any diploma/bachelor's.
  • A certificate course in housekeeping/facility management is desirable.
  • 25 years of hospital housekeeping experience

    , with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
