Hospital Pharmacist

Key Responsibilities

• Dispensing Medications: Reviewing prescriptions for accuracy and legality, compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals for accurate dispensing.
• Patient Counseling: Educating patients on medication usage, proper dosage, potential side effects, and storage.
• Medication Management: Monitoring patient drug therapies to prevent harmful interactions, managing drug inventories, and removing expired or damaged medications.
• Collaboration: Communicating with physicians and other healthcare providers to clarify orders and optimize patient care plans.
• Regulatory Compliance: Adhering to all federal and state laws and regulations, including those from the DEA, FDA, and the state board of pharmacy.
• Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate pharmacy files, patient profiles, and inventories of controlled substances.
• Quality Assurance: Performing checks to ensure the identity, strength, and purity of medications and reporting adverse drug reactions.
• Inventory Management: Ordering, purchasing, and properly storing pharmaceutical supplies.
• Workplace Management: Ensuring an organized and efficient pharmacy workflow and supervising pharmacy technicians.
