Job Description

To lead and manage all procurement activities related to the greenfield/brownfield steel plant / Pipe Plant project, ensuring timely availability of materials, equipment, and services in line with project timelines, quality standards, and cost targets. The role involves strategic sourcing, vendor development, contract management, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Procurement Strategy & Planning:

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with the overall project execution plan.
  • Create and manage the procurement budget for the steel / Pipe plant project.
  • Establish policies and procedures to ensure effective and compliant procurement practices.

2. Procurement Execution:

  • Oversee end-to-end procurement of long lead equipment, machinery, bulk materials (steel, cement, refractory, etc.), and services.
  • Ensure procurement schedules align with engineering and construction milestones.
  • Monitor progress and mitigate risks of delays or cost overruns.

3. Vendor & Contract Management:

  • Identify, prequalify, and develop vendor base for project materials and services (domestic and international).
  • Negotiate terms and conditions, contracts, and prices with suppliers and contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual terms, including quality, delivery timelines, and commercial terms.

4. Cross-functional Coordination:

  • Liaise closely with Engineering, Planning, Construction, Quality, and Finance teams.
  • Coordinate with legal, tax, and logistics departments for smooth processing of imports, duties, and compliances.

5. Risk & Compliance Management:

  • Assess procurement risks and devise mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, statutory requirements, and ethical procurement practices.

6. Leadership & Team Management:

  • Lead and mentor a team of procurement professionals, expeditors, and contract administrators.
  • Build a high-performing team with a focus on efficiency, cost control, and innovation.

Key Deliverables / KPIs:

  • On-time procurement and delivery of all project packages
  • Cost savings through strategic sourcing and negotiations
  • Supplier performance and quality adherence
  • Zero procurement-related delays in project execution
  • Compliance with procurement policies and audit standards

Qualifications:

  • B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Electrical / Metallurgy / Production Engineering
  • MBA in Supply Chain / Materials Management (preferred)

Experience:

  • 15-25 years of experience in project procurement for large Steel / industrial projects
  • Minimum 5-7 years in a leadership role
  • Prior experience in steel plant or similar heavy industrial project is

    mandatory

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of EPC procurement processes
  • Excellent negotiation and contract management skills
  • Understanding of technical specifications of plant equipment and materials
  • Familiarity with global sourcing and import/export regulations
  • Proficiency in SAP or other ERP systems
