Job Description

As the Orthoptic Service Manager at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, you will be responsible for overseeing a team of 15 Band 6/Band 7 orthoptists and 1 orthoptic assistant, with a role that involves a mix of clinical work and managerial duties. Your role will be based at Gartnavel General Hospital but will also cover multiple sites including Queen Elizabeth University Hospitals, Institute of Neurological Sciences, New Victoria Hospital, community nurseries for pre-school vision screening, and West Child Development Centre. **Key Responsibilities:** - Manage a team of orthoptists and an orthoptic assistant, ensuring high standards of clinical care - Oversee the orthoptic service's professional leadership, governance, and practice placements - Contribute to workforce and strategic planning in collaboration with the Clinical Service Manager (CSM) and AHP director - Work at an advanced clinical level within various sub-specialty services, acting as a mentor and role model - Provide orthoptic input to a range of sub-specialties including adult motility, neuro-ophthalmology, stroke, and pediatrics - Develop and maintain close working relationships with regional services and participate in shared-care clinics - Support undergraduate Orthoptic students, teach pre-reg optometrists, and junior medical staff - Demonstrate an innovative approach to service development and quality improvement - Conduct relevant audit/research activities and ensure up-to-date CPD **Qualifications Required:** - Hold a degree or diploma in Orthoptics and be HCPC registered with exemptions for Orthoptists - Minimum of 10 years clinical experience working with adult and pediatric caseloads - Experience at an advanced level within one sub-specialty area - Training and experience in line management & leadership of a diverse team - Advanced communication skills, empathy, and a patient-centered approach - Documented evidence of up-to-date CPD - Must possess a valid UK Driver's license This role offers you the opportunity to make a significant impact within the Orthoptic service at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care.
