We have been mandated by a large conglomerate in to iron & Steel business for the below mentioned role .

Position Title: Head

Location: Jamshedpur

Qualification : BE / B Tech Mechanical / Industrial / Production

Experience: 25 + Years

Purpose of the role :

The Head of Operations will lead and oversee all aspects of the operational functions of an integrated steel plant, including SMS, Rolling Mill, DRI , Pellet Plant, Blast Furnace with Sinter Plant , Bricks Plant and Cement Plant . The role demands strategic planning, process optimization, and team leadership to drive production efficiency, product quality, cost reduction, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic and Operational Leadership

• Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with business goals.
• Lead the end-to-end operations of the integrated steel plant ( SMS, Rolling Mill, DRI , Pellet Plant, Blast Furnace with Sinter Plant , Bricks Plant , Coke Oven , Cement Plant ) from raw material handling to finished product dispatch.
• Set and monitor KPIs across departments (.).
• Drive continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives (Lean, TPM, Six Sigma, etc.).

Production Management

• Ensure timely achievement of production targets with optimal resource utilization.
• Monitor day-to-day plant activities to ensure quality, safety, and efficiency.
• Coordinate with planning and marketing teams to align production schedules with market demand.

People Management

• Lead and develop cross-functional teams across departments.
• Foster a culture of safety, discipline, and accountability.
• Mentor and groom the next generation of operational leaders.

Compliance and Safety

• Ensure compliance with statutory, legal, and environmental regulations.
• Implement robust safety and sustainability practices across the plant.
• Conduct periodic audits and safety drills to maintain high EHS standards.

Cost Control and Efficiency

• Monitor and control operational costs, reduce waste, and enhance productivity.
• Optimize raw material usage and energy consumption.
• Lead initiatives for technological upgradation and process automation.

Stakeholder Management

• Liaise with senior management, government bodies, and external stakeholders.
• Represent operations in strategic discussions and board-level meetings.
• Coordinate with supply chain and logistics for inbound and outbound efficiency.

Key Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgy / Mechanical / Electrical / Chemical Engineering. Master’s Degree or MBA is a plus.
• Proven experience (20+ years) in steel plant operations, including leadership roles in an integrated steel facility.
• Strong knowledge of steel production technologies, quality systems, and plant management.
• Excellent leadership, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with digital transformation, Industry 4.0, and sustainability practices in steel manufacturing.
