The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing and managing the production processes and planning operations at a specialty steel wire manufacturing plant. This role will ensure that all production activities are carried out efficiently, meeting quality standards, timelines, and budgetary constraints. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, supply chain management, production planning, and lean manufacturing principles.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Management:
- Oversee all production activities to ensure optimal productivity and efficiency.
- Ensure production targets, quality standards, and deadlines are met consistently.
- Lead, manage, and develop a production team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Optimize production processes and implement lean manufacturing principles to minimize waste and reduce costs.
- Monitor production schedules and ensure timely delivery of finished goods to meet customer demands.
Production Planning:
- Develop and maintain detailed production plans and schedules, ensuring the efficient utilization of resources and minimizing downtime.
- Collaborate with the sales, procurement, and quality control teams to ensure the timely procurement of raw materials and the delivery of finished products.
- Coordinate the production process across various departments (maintenance, logistics, and quality control) to ensure smooth operations.
- Forecast production volumes and adjust schedules based on customer requirements, order volumes, and inventory levels.
Quality Control & Compliance:
- Ensure that the production process adheres to industry standards and customer specifications.
- Implement robust quality control processes to detect and resolve any defects or deviations.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of equipment, processes, and outputs to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Manage and motivate the production and planning team, providing direction, guidance, and support.
- Establish training and development programs to enhance the skills and capabilities of the production team.
- Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Inventory Management:
- Oversee inventory management, ensuring that the required raw materials and consumables are available without overstocking.
- Collaborate with the procurement department to manage supply chain risks and ensure materials are sourced in a cost-effective and timely manner.
Budget and Cost Control:
- Develop and manage the production department's budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through process optimization, material utilization, and energy management.
- Monitor production costs and take corrective actions when necessary to stay within budget.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Provide regular production and planning reports to senior management, highlighting performance metrics, achievements, and areas for improvement.
- Analyze production data and trends to inform decision-making and improve operational efficiency.
- Participate in strategic planning activities to align production goals with overall company objectives.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, (Master in operations management preffred but not mandatory)
Experience:
- Minimum 15 years of experience in production and planning, with at least 5 years in a leadership role in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in specialty steel wire manufacturing or a similar industry (e.g., metalworking, manufacturing, or automotive) is highly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of production planning, scheduling, inventory management, and manufacturing processes.
- Proven track record in managing large teams and driving operational improvements.
WIRE DRAWING / PATENTING LINE EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
