We have been mandated by a large conglomerate into Iron & Steel business for the below mentioned role.

Location : Jamshedpur

Qualification : Diploma/B.Tech-Metallurgy/Chemical/Bsc/ Msc-Chemistry

Experience : 20 + Years

Job Purpose

The Incumbent will lead the entire Quality Control function of the Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) Plant, ensuring that all products meet stringent metallurgical, chemical, and physical standards. The role demands strong technical expertise in DRI process quality parameters, robust leadership skills, and the ability to implement best practices in quality management systems for continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

Quality Assurance & Control:

Lead and oversee the quality control laboratory operations, including sampling, testing, and analysis of raw materials (iron ore, coal, dolomite) and finished DRI products.

Establish and monitor quality parameters for process inputs, intermediates, and outputs to meet plant production and customer specifications.

Ensure compliance with BIS, ISO, and other industry standards relevant to DRI operations.

Analyze metallurgical properties and provide recommendations for process improvements.

Process & Product Improvement:

Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance teams to ensure consistent product quality and optimize process parameters.

Identify root causes of deviations in quality and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

Drive initiatives for yield improvement, energy efficiency, and reduction in rejections or downgrades.

Leadership & Team Management:

Manage, mentor, and develop a team of quality control engineers, chemists, and technicians.

Build a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement within the QC department.

Ensure adequate training and skill development of QC staff.

Systems & Compliance:

Implement and maintain ISO 9001/14001/45001 standards in the QC function.

Ensure adherence to environmental, health, and safety norms while handling materials and lab operations.

Maintain proper documentation, test reports, and traceability records for audits and certifications.

Customer & Stakeholder Interface:

Coordinate with marketing and customer teams to understand product quality requirements.

Handle customer complaints related to product quality and implement corrective measures.

Represent the QC function during external audits and inspections.
