Global Intellectual Property Engineering

• The Global Intellectual Property Engineer will manage the Intellectual Property portfolio including patents and trademarks. You work closely with stakeholders from R&D and Innovation, and our patent attorneys on patent and trademark applications. You will be the first point of contact for inventors to support them and our business in the best possible way. You will also closely follow the IP activities of our international competitors and monitor the market.

Responsibilities

• performing prior art patent searches on various patent databases, analyzing and developing inventive concepts to enhance patent ability of the inventions
• working with R&D teams to review research outcomes, invention harvesting and preparation of invention disclosures
• liaison between R&D teams and wide legal team, and engaging with outside counsel, coordinating the preparation of patent applications, invalidity reports, patents filing and renewals, FTO reports and the like
• technical analysis of patents and other technical documents
• strong analytical skills with a deep understanding of the technology
• preparation of claim charts for FTO or patentability assessments
• organise patent survey globally

Requirements

• Qualifications: University level qualification in a physical science, e.g., materials, chemistry, physics, engineering
• EQE is a plus
• Experience: Ideally at least 8 years of industry experience in a similar role, preferably dealing with the development of materials and engineering solutions for high temperature applications, such as refractories
• Good knowledge of major patent systems including PCT, US, EPO, Japan and China
• A keen interest in science, technology and intellectual property
• Key skills: patent searching (patentability and FTO), patent analysis, IP landscaping, claim chart preparation, product searching, competitor analysis, invention disclosure preparation, excellent written and verbal communication capabilities to liaise with in-house R&D and legal teams and outside patent counsel
