Job Description

Purpose/Objective


    Geologist - Mining conducts geological surveys and assessments to identify and evaluate mineral resources, ensuring that all activities comply with environmental regulations and industry standards. The role involves using advanced geological tools to create detailed maps, conducting sampling and analysis of rock and soil, and providing data-driven recommendations for mine planning. The Geologist also maintains accurate records, implements internal controls, and upholds high ethical standards in resource evaluation. Additionally, the role includes leading exploration activities, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, and collaborating with other departments to support effective mine planning and operations.

Key Responsibilities of Role


    Geological Surveying and Mapping: Conduct geological surveys and mapping to identify mineral deposits and assess their quality and quantity. Use advanced geological tools and software to create detailed maps and models of the mining area. Collaborate with mining engineers and surveyors to integrate geological data into mine planning and operations. Resource Evaluation: Evaluate the quality and quantity of mineral resources, providing detailed reports and recommendations for mining operations. Conduct sampling and analysis of rock and soil to determine the composition and distribution of minerals. Use geological data to inform mine planning, including the selection of mining methods and the design of extraction processes. Environmental Stewardship and Compliance: Ensure that all geological activities are conducted in an environmentally responsible manner, adhering to environmental regulations. Assess the environmental impact of mining activities and provide recommendations for minimizing negative effects. Collaborate with environmental specialists to develop and implement sustainable mining practices. Internal Controls and Transparency: Maintain detailed and accurate geological records to support mine planning, regulatory reporting, and environmental compliance. Implement internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of geological data and reports. Ensure transparency in all geological activities, maintaining clear documentation for audits and inspections. Ethics and Integrity in Resource Evaluation: Uphold high ethical standards in the exploration and evaluation of mineral resources, ensuring accuracy and honesty in reporting. Conduct resource evaluations with integrity, providing reliable data for mine planning and decision-making. Promote ethical conduct within the geological team, ensuring that all activities are carried out with professionalism and respect for the environment. Exploration and Prospecting: Lead exploration and prospecting activities to identify new mineral deposits and assess their potential for development. Use geological and geophysical techniques to locate and evaluate new mining sites. Collaborate with drilling teams to conduct exploratory drilling and collect core samples for analysis. Compliance and Reporting: Ensure that all geological activities comply with statutory regulations, including those mandated by DGMS and other relevant authorities. Maintain detailed records of geological surveys, sampling, and analysis, ensuring that all documentation is accurate and up-to-date. Prepare and submit geological reports to senior management and regulatory bodies, highlighting key findings and recommendations. Team Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with mining engineers, surveyors, and operational staff to ensure effective collaboration in mine planning and operations. Participate in cross-functional teams to address technical challenges and develop innovative solutions. Provide technical guidance and support to junior geologists and other team members. Qualifications and Experience


    Education Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related field. Work Experience: 5+ years of experience in geological surveying and resource evaluation within the mining industry. Industry Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of geological surveying, mineral resource evaluation, and environmental compliance. Expertise in using advanced geological tools and software for mapping and data analysis.
