Job Description

As a professional genetic counselor, your primary responsibility will be to assist patients and their families in comprehending and adjusting to the medical, psychological, and familial implications of genetic diseases or genetic predispositions. You will engage in various activities such as disease risk evaluation, interpretation of genetic tests, family analysis, counseling intervention, and collaborate closely with medical professionals, laboratories, and patients to enhance the quality of clinical services. Your key responsibilities will include offering genetic counseling services encompassing birth defects, rare diseases, tumor genetics, assisted reproduction, prenatal screening, and other relevant areas. You will be required to assess personal and family medical histories, create family pedigrees, and recognize potential genetic risks. Furthermore, interpreting genetic test results to help patients grasp their clinical significance and potential outcomes will be an essential part of your role. In addition, you will need to educate patients on the pathogenesis, risk assessment, prevention strategies, and treatment options for genetic diseases. You will collaborate with doctors to devise further diagnostic, screening, or intervention plans. Maintaining accurate and confidential genetic counseling reports and medical records will also be part of your responsibilities. Your involvement in interdisciplinary consultations and cooperation with healthcare providers, testing facilities, and psychological counselors will be crucial. It is imperative that you stay updated on the latest advancements and guidelines in genetics and participate in ongoing training and educational activities. To qualify for this role, you must hold a Master's degree or higher in genetics, biomedicine, medicine, nursing, or related fields. Previous experience in genetic counseling or related disciplines is required, along with familiarity with common genetic diseases, testing technologies, and interpretation methods. Possessing a recognized genetic counselor certification is mandatory if applicable in your country or region. Moreover, exceptional communication skills, empathy, adaptability, and the ability to effectively interact with patients and their families are essential. Upholding medical ethics, maintaining confidentiality, and demonstrating a strong sense of professional ethics are prerequisites for this position.,
