JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title : General Manager Plant (Operations & Administration) Reporting To : Director Location : Changodar/Bavla (Plant / Manufacturing Unit) Job Purpose The General Manager Plant (Operations & Administration) is responsible for overall plant management (excluding Production), ensuring smooth functioning of maintenance, utilities, administration, HR coordination, statutory compliance, safety, security, stores, logistics, and infrastructure. The role focuses on operational excellence, cost control, compliance, and employee discipline to support uninterrupted production. Key Responsibilities 1. Plant Operations & Infrastructure Oversee plant infrastructure, utilities, and facilities including power, DG sets, boilers, compressors, ETP/STP, HVAC, water systems, and civil maintenance. Ensure preventive and breakdown maintenance of plant equipment in coordination with maintenance teams. ¢ Monitor AMC contracts, vendors, and service providers for plant utilities and infrastructure. 2. Maintenance & Engineering Coordination ¢ Review maintenance schedules, downtime reports, and corrective actions. ¢ ¢ Ensure availability of spare parts and effective maintenance planning. Coordinate with production team to minimize breakdown-related losses (without direct production control). 3. Statutory Compliance & Legal ¢ Ensure compliance with Factories Act, Pollution Control norms, Boiler Inspectorate, Electrical Inspectorate, Fire Safety, PESO, and other applicable laws. ¢ Liaise with government authorities and handle audits, inspections, and renewals.
¢ Ensure timely submission of statutory returns and licenses. 4. 5. 6. Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) ¢ Implement and monitor safety policies, SOPs, and emergency preparedness. ¢ Ensure use of PPE, safety training, mock drills, and incident investigations. ¢ Maintain compliance with environmental norms and waste management. Administration & Security ¢ Oversee plant administration, housekeeping, canteen, transport, security, and discipline. ¢ ¢ Manage security systems, access control, CCTV, and asset protection. Handle employee grievances related to plant facilities and administration. HR Coordination & Discipline ¢ Coordinate with HR for attendance, shift discipline, manpower planning, and contract labour management. ¢ Support HR in handling misconduct cases, show-cause notices, and domestic inquiries. ¢ Ensure adherence to company policies and code of conduct at the plant. 7. 8. Stores, Purchase & Inventory Control ¢ ¢ ¢ Monitor stores, spares, consumables, and inventory levels. Coordinate with purchase for timely procurement and vendor evaluation. Ensure cost control and avoidance of pilferage or misuse of materials. Cost Control & Budgeting ¢ Prepare and monitor plant OPEX and CAPEX budgets (non- production). ¢ Identify cost-saving opportunities in utilities, maintenance, and administration. ¢ Track monthly expenses and ensure budget adherence.
9. Coordination & Reporting ¢ ¢ ¢ Act as a single point of contact for all non-production plant functions. Coordinate with production, quality, HR, finance, and corporate office. Prepare and present MIS reports to top management. Key Skills & Competencies ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢ Strong leadership and plant management skills Knowledge of statutory compliances & labour laws Safety and environmental management expertise Vendor and contract management Budgeting and cost control Problem-solving and decision-making Excellent coordination and communication skills Qualification & Experience ¢ ¢ ¢ B.E. / B.Tech (Mechanical / Electrical / Industrial) preferred MBA / PG Diploma in Operations or Industrial Management (added advantage) 10 years of experience in plant operations or administration in a manufacturing setup ¢ Exposure to unionized or large workforce environments preferred Working Conditions: ¢ Full-time position with standard working hours; occasional overtime may be required. ¢ Plant-based work arrangements.
