Full-Stack Developer

Role Overview

Were looking for a hands-on Full-Stack Developer who thrives in code, not just concepts. This is a build-heavy role- ideal for someone who enjoys solving real-world problems through elegant, scalable software.

You’ll work closely with our Head Engineer to design and develop secure, performant applications that integrate with NHS infrastructure. You’ll be expected to take ownership of features end-to-end, from system design to deployment.

Note:

1. This position is for people who are comfortable with writing and reading code, building prototypes and apps and being able to brainstorm about the product end-to-end.

2. Translate product ideas to infrastructure / system design well and be able to make decisions comfortably.

3. We are a small team, so we won't be able to provide structured training, we are hiring the first few people, so we need them to be comfortable with the big picture.

Key Responsibilities

1. Full-Stack Development

• Build and maintain scalable web applications using Go, SQL, Python, Node.js, TypeScript and React
• Knowledge of Amazon Web Services
• Develop responsive, accessible patient-facing portals and mobile-friendly apps
• Design APIs and integrate with NHS systems (e.g., FHIR, EMIS, SystmOne)
• Ensure code quality through testing, reviews, and documentation

2. System Architecture & Performance

• Contribute to architectural decisions and infrastructure planning
• Implement caching, performance tuning, and real-time data flows

3. DevOps & Deployment

• Collaborate on CI/CD pipelines, containerisation (Docker), and cloud deployment (AWS preferred)
• Monitor application health and performance using industry-standard tools

4. Agile Collaboration

• Work with product managers, clinicians, and designers to translate requirements into reliable solutions
• Participate in stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives

5. Security & Compliance

• Ensure all code meets NHS data protection, cybersecurity, and GDPR standards
• Help implement secure authentication and access controls

What You Bring

• Strong full-stack experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and React
• Comfortable navigating large codebases and building production-grade apps
• Familiarity with REST APIs, SQL, Git, CI/CD, and automated testing
• Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills
• High attention to detail and ability to work independently
• Experience in healthcare tech or handling sensitive data is a plus

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master’s in computer science, Software Engineering, or related field
• Proven track record of building and scaling web applications
• Familiarity with NHS data standards (FHIR, SNOMED CT) is desirable but not essential

Employment Terms

• Three-month notice period on either side
• Relocation support to UK office after 2 years (based on performance and mutual agreement)
