Job Description

Firmware / Embedded Software Engineer

Location: Chennai

Experience: 3–7 years

Education: B.E / B.Tech (ECE / CSE / IT)

Short profile:

Hands-on embedded engineer who owns BSP, board bring-up and device drivers for x86/ARM mission computers and rugged VPX/VME systems. Must be able to move from kernel/device-driver work to system validation in the lab.

What you’ll own

● Develop and maintain Board Support Packages (Slim-boot, U-Boot, kernel, device trees) and OS images (Yocto / Buildroot).

● Write and maintain low-level drivers, middleware and hardware abstraction layers in C/C++.

● Lead board bring-up, kernel debug, and root-cause hardware/software integration issues on rugged systems.

● Integrate and test firmware with FPGA, power management and peripheral teams.

● Automate boot and validation flows; write stable debug scripts and test cases.

● Maintain source control best practices and CI-friendly build recipes.

Must-have (non-negotiable)

● Strong C programming skills and embedded Linux experience.

● Practical experience with U-Boot, device trees and Linux kernel module/driver development.

● Yocto or Buildroot experience and cross-build / toolchain familiarity.

● Experience with JTAG, GDB, serial consoles and common lab instruments.

● Proven history of board bring-up and successful system validation on real hardware.

Nice-to-have

● BSP work for x86 boards (UEFI/ACPI knowledge) and real-time patches.

● Familiarity with ethernet stacks, PCIe, storage (NVMe), and SATA drivers.

● Exposure to avionics/defence workflows, DGQA/DRDO processes.

Python scripting for automation and test harnesses.
