Job DescriptionPosition Overview

The Fiber & Structured Cabling Technician is responsible for installing, splicing, routing, and maintaining optical fiber networks, structured LAN cabling, CCTV wiring, and duct cabling systems. The role involves fieldwork on poles, underground ducts, buildings, and customer premises, ensuring high-quality and reliable connectivity.

Responsibilities

1. Optical Fiber Installation & Routing

  • Lay and secure fiber optic cables on poles following safety and industry standards.
  • Execute duct cable laying for underground OFC installations.
  • Manage optical fiber splicing (fusion/mechanical) with minimal signal loss.
  • Handle rerouting, restructuring, and integration of new cable routes.
  • Remove unwanted or dead social/utility cables from poles or ducts.
  • Perform OTDR, power meter, and continuity testing for quality assurance.

2. Structured Cabling & CCTV Network Work

  • Install and manage CCTV cabling, camera wiring, and power/internet connectivity.
  • Lay CAT 6 LAN cables, including concealed wiring, surface conduit, and rack termination.
  • Perform network cable crimping, patch panel termination, and RJ45 connector work.
  • Install and configure basic network elements such as switches, routers, NVR/DVR (if required).
  • Execute infra cabling and low-voltage wiring systems for offices and buildings.

3. Cabling Conversions & Maintenance

  • Replace or upgrade old cabling with new structured cabling systems.
  • Convert existing cable routes, transitions from copper to fiber, or hybrid cabling solutions.
  • Conduct regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and fault identification for fiber and network cabling.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in fiber optic installation, splicing, and field cabling work.
  • Knowledge of CAT 6 structured cabling, CCTV systems, and low-voltage wiring.
  • Familiarity with OTDR, VFL, power meter, and splicing machines.
  • Ability to work at heights (poles), in ducts, and in outdoor conditions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and cable-routing skills.
  • Understanding of telecom and network infrastructure standards.

Suitable Candidate Profile

  • Field technician with fiber, CCTV, or structured cabling experience.
  • Ability to work independently and manage field tasks efficiently.
  • Good communication and coordination skills with team members and clients.
