Roles & Responsibilities

1. Statutory Compliance & Documentation

• Ensure compliance with MoEF&CC, CPCB, SPCB, and ISO 14001 environmental regulations applicable to thermal power plants.
• Maintain statutory approvals (CTE, CTO, Hazardous Waste Authorization, Fly Ash Notification compliance).
• Prepare and submit environmental reports such as stack emissions, AAQ monitoring, effluent reports, hazardous waste returns, and fly ash utilization reports.
• Support external audits, government inspections, and environmental surveillance visits.
  

2. Air Pollution Monitoring & Control

• Monitor ESPs, FGDs, Bag Filters, and stack emissions for compliance with standards for SO, NOx, PM, and CO.
• Review CEMS (Continuous Emission Monitoring System) data and ensure real-time compliance.
• Investigate non-compliance events and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  

3. Water Management & Effluent Treatment

• Monitor water consumption, cooling tower operations, and plant water balance.
• Ensure proper functioning of ETPs, STPs, oil-water separators, and ZLD systems (if applicable).
• Conduct routine sampling of process water, wastewater, and groundwater as per regulatory norms.
  

4. Waste Management (Hazardous & Non-Hazardous)

• Oversee ash handling, ash pond/ash dyke management, and fly ash utilization.
• Manage hazardous waste storage, transportation, and disposal as per Waste Management Rules.
• Maintain strict documentation and ensure safe handling practices across the plant.
  

5. Environmental Monitoring & Risk Assessment

• Conduct daily/weekly inspections across CHP, AHP, Boiler-Turbine, Cooling Towers, Coal Yard, Switchyard, etc.
• Identify environmental hazards and recommend engineering controls.
• Lead environmental impact assessments, risk studies, and incident investigations.
  

6. Environmental Management System (EMS) ISO 14001

• Implement and maintain EMS documentation, SOPs, and operational controls.
• Conduct internal audits, gap analysis, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Develop environmental KPIs and ensure sustained compliance.
  

7. Training & Awareness

• Conduct environmental awareness and pollution prevention training for employees and contractors.
• Develop training modules on waste management, spill response, ash handling, and environmental protection practices.
• Promote sustainability programs within the plant.
  

8. Liaison & Coordination

• Coordinate with regulatory authorities, environmental consultants, and NABL-approved laboratories.
• Work closely with operations, CHP, AHP, maintenance, and EHS teams for environmental compliance across plant activities.
  

Key Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

• Expertise in thermal power plant environmental systems (ESP, FGD, CEMS, ETP, STP).
• Strong understanding of environmental monitoring, sampling methods, and data interpretation.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Air Act, Water Act, Hazardous Waste Rules, and Fly Ash Notification.
• Experience in EIA, EMP implementation, and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
  

Soft Skills

• Excellent reporting, communication, and coordination skills.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to manage audits, regulatory inspections, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Planning, documentation, and leadership skills.
  

Qualifications

• B.E in Environment or Civil Engineering

  (Mandatory).

• PG Degree or Diploma in Environmental Science / Environmental Management

  (Preferred).
• Additional certifications such as ADIS/PDIS will be an added advantage.
  

Experience Requirements

• Total Experience:

  Minimum

  10 years

  .

• Relevant Experience:

  At least

  7 years in environment-related safety

  functions, preferably in

  thermal power plants
