DESCRIPTION About the Project: English Gyani is an intelligent tutoring app developed at IISc. Our mission is to build a personalized AI speech coach that understands the unique nuances and patterns of Indian English speakers. We aim to help millions improve their conversational fluency, overcome linguistic barriers, and unlock professional opportunities. Read more https://spire.ee.iisc.ac.in/src/english_gyani.php To achieve this, we need to train our AI on high-quality, expertly annotated data. This is where you come in. What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities): Perform detailed linguistic annotation of text and audio data, identifying grammatical, syntactical, and phonetic errors. Analyze and transcribe audio recordings of Indian English speakers with a high degree of accuracy and attention to nuance. Develop and curate high-quality linguistic content (e.g., practice exercises, explanations, sample sentences) to be used within the app. Validate the quality of annotations performed by other contributors and AI models, ensuring data consistency and accuracy. Collaborate with our research team to refine annotation guidelines and contribute to the overall linguistic intelligence of the system. Who You Are (The Ideal Expert): You hold an Expertise in English Literature, Linguistics, Phonetics, or a closely related field. You have an exceptional, expert-level command of English grammar, syntax, and semantics. You possess a deep understanding of descriptive linguistics and can analyze language as it is used, not just as it is prescribed. You have a keen analytical eye for identifying linguistic patterns and errors, particularly within the context of Indian English. You are meticulous, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with technology and new software tools. (Preferred) Experience in corpus linguistics, NLP annotation, content creation for EdTech, or ESL/EFL teaching is a significant advantage.
