What would you do? The Site Commissioning & Substation Operations Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and supervising commissioning activities of electrical substations and ensuring reliable and safe substation operations post-energization. The role involves coordinating with design, construction, testing, and utility teams to ensure that all electrical systems meet technical, safety, and regulatory standards.

What are we looking for? ?¢Relevant experience in substation commissioning, testing, or operations (HV / EHV systems preferred).?¢Exposure to utility-grade substations of UK standard and renewable evacuation systems is desirable.?¢Knowledge of protection and control systems, SCADA, and communication protocols.?¢Proficiency with test kits and commissioning tools (OMICRON, Megger, Doble, etc.).?¢Familiarity with substation automation systems (SAS / IEC 61850).?¢Understanding of grounding systems, relay coordination, and fault analysis.?¢Experience with maintenance management software (SAP PM, Maximo, etc.).?¢B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems or related field)?¢Strong problem-solving and analytical ability.?¢Good communication and reporting skills.?¢Team leadership and cross-functional coordination.?¢Commitment to safety, reliability, and quality standards.

Roles and Responsibilities: 1. Commissioning Activities?¢Plan and execute pre-commissioning and commissioning of substation equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, CTs, PTs, isolators, protection relays, and control systems.?¢Prepare and review commissioning schedules, test procedures, and method statements.?¢Conduct testing and verification of electrical systems including insulation resistance, ratio test, contact resistance, Tan Delta, and relay functional testing.?¢Supervise on-site testing teams and coordinate with OEMs, contractors, and clients during commissioning.?¢Ensure smooth energization and handover of substations to operations teams.2. Substation Operations & Maintenance?¢Oversee daily substation operations ensuring safe and reliable power supply.?¢Monitor substation performance parameters through SCADA and perform fault diagnosis.?¢Schedule and carry out preventive and corrective maintenance of substation assets.?¢Manage switching operations, isolation procedures, and work permits in compliance with safety standards.?¢Support outage management, restoration, and load transfer activities.3. Technical Documentation & Reporting?¢Prepare and maintain test reports, as-built documentation, and commissioning certificates.?¢Update single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, and protection coordination charts as per site changes.?¢Maintain records of maintenance schedules, faults, and equipment history.?¢Generate periodic performance, reliability, and incident reports.4. Safety & Compliance?¢Enforce safety procedures during commissioning and operational activities (arc-flash safety etc).?¢Ensure compliance with applicable UK standards ?¢Conduct site safety audits, toolbox talks, and ensure proper use of PPE.5. Coordination & Continuous Improvement?¢Collaborate with project management, design, and protection teams to resolve technical issues.?¢Provide technical support during system upgrades and expansion projects.?¢Recommend improvements in procedures, asset reliability, and operational efficiency.?¢Support training of site and maintenance personnel on operational and safety practices.
