Seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a cross functional, high performing team manages engineering for design and development of various engine components such as Air Compressor, Flexpipes, Heat Shields, Preservation, Film, shipping cover and paint instruction groups. Previous supervisory experience is required.
As an Engineering Manager, you will provide supervision and technical direction to management and agency employees engaged in activities to support NPI, Quality, Cost reduction and resourcing programs. You are responsible for design ownership of the above-mentioned components and also be responsible for end-to-end development including directing and ensuring proper design and integration of the above-mentioned components, management of technical information including requirements, supplier management, driving strong manufacturing collaboration, and ensuring adherence to Caterpillar Product and Process Excellence standards.
Job Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
- Design control and portfolio management of various engine components such as Air Compressor, Flexpipes, Heat Shields, Preservation, Film, shipping cover and paint instruction groups
- Responsible for seamless integration of the above-mentioned components working with team members from multiple locations globally
- Direct supervision of Caterpillar and agency employees and Mentor, coach and develop others
- Provide direction to staff primarily based out of Chennai but also at other locations, via robust CPPD practices
- This requires leadership to align engineering and purchasing on sourcing matrix of key components.
- Establish, develop and maintain strong relationship and collaboration with Manufacturing and Suppliers, building consensus and ensuring product is developed first time right
- Champion and adhere to Caterpillar Lean development principles
- Drive innovation and foster continuous learning within the team
- Adopt flexible approach to ensure enough overlap of working hours with teams in US
Basic Qualifications
- Requires an accredited Mechanical Engineering degree
- 15+ years of combined experience in Component and System Development for Diesel Engines and 8+ years of experience in design, component development and validation of air system components as mentioned above.
- Experience managing projects and leading global teams to deliver new product designs into production
- Expert with standard NPI process tools such as FMEA, DVPR, APQP, PPAP, BIQ, etc.
- Strong ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well as employees in other units, customers and suppliers
- Field support and Factory support experience
- VAVE Execution and Cost Reduction experience
