ECU Layout Engineer

Key Responsibilities

Role Focus

• Architecture Definition:

  Define the global

  ECU component placement strategy

  for new vehicle platforms, optimizing the location of high-value components (e.g., domain controllers, high-power modules) for system efficiency.

• Master Section Ownership:

  Own and maintain the

  Vehicle Electronics Packaging Master Section

  , including defining standard mounting hardware, clearances, and placement zones across all vehicle lines.

• Optimization Driver:

  Lead technical initiatives focused on optimizing packaging, specifically targeting reductions in

  harness length and cost

  , while maintaining strict thermal and performance requirements.

• Complex Problem Solving:

  Serve as the technical expert for resolving the most complex packaging,

  EMC/EMI shielding, and grounding issues

  related to component physical location.

• Supplier & Tool Strategy:

  Influence the selection and technical capabilities of mounting system suppliers and drive continuous improvement in the use of

  CAD and PLM tools

  for electronic packaging.

• Mentorship:

  Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to Lead and Senior Layout Engineers, setting the benchmark for design quality and robust engineering practices.

Key Skills & Requirements

• Experience:

  8 to 12 years of extensive experience in automotive electronics packaging, physical layout, and architecture definition.

• Deep System Knowledge:

  Expert knowledge of the relationship between ECU placement,

  Harness Architecture

  , and

  Thermal Management

  solutions (e.g., heat sinks, airflow, liquid cooling interfaces).

• EMC/EMI Expertise:

  Proven expertise in

  EMC/EMI compliant placement

  and grounding strategies for sensitive electronic devices.

• Design Strategy:

  Demonstrated ability to develop and enforce global mechanical design standards and specifications for electronics mounting.

• Advanced CAD & Analysis:

  Expert proficiency in

  CATIA/NX

  or equivalent, with a focus on large assembly management and complex clearance analysis. Mastery of statistical tolerance stack-up.

• Robust Engineering:

  Expert knowledge of

  DFMEA, DVP&R

  , and automotive regulatory standards related to electronics mounting and safety.
