Job Description

Candidate would be required to possess a post graduate qualification (MD) in Dental sciences from a reputed university with 3 years post qualification experience in a reputed hospital Pre-operative Dental Evaluation for Cardiac Patients Assess oral and dental health of patients scheduled for cardiothoracic surgery or interventional procedures. Identify and report any oral infections, periodontal disease, or dental conditions that could increase the risk of post-operative infections like endocarditis. Dental Clearance and Documentation Provide written dental clearance (fit/unfit) reports before surgeries such as valve replacements, congenital corrections, or device implantations. Maintain proper NABH-compliant documentation and ensure it is incorporated into the patient’s pre-op file. Infection Control and Oral Health Risk Mitigation Advise on management of oral foci of infection to reduce post-op complications, especially in patients with prosthetic valves, pacemakers, or immunocompromised conditions. Prescribe dental treatment plans when required before cardiac intervention. Interdisciplinary Coordination Collaborate with cardiologists, anesthesiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and ICU teams to plan optimal timing for dental interventions, especially for high-risk patients. Chairside Procedures (If Required and Approved) Perform minor chairside dental procedures like extractions or scaling when indicated, prior to surgery (as per hospital SOP and patient consent). Refer to external dental services for complex procedures beyond scope. Patient Education and Preventive Oral Care Counsel patients and caregivers about the importance of oral hygiene in cardiac disease management and prevention of infective endocarditis. Recommend follow-up dental visits post-surgery for long-term oral health. Clinical Governance and Quality Assurance Ensure infection control protocols in dental screening are strictly followed. Participate in quality audits, departmental meetings, and clinical case discussions where relevant.
