A Charge Nurse in a Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) plays a vital leadership role in a high-acuity environment where patients have undergone complex cardiac and thoracic surgeries (e.g., CABG, valve replacements, heart/lung transplants). important duties to be performed by the selected Nurse In charge (ICU) would be: Supervise and Coordinate Staff Allocate patient assignments based on acuity and nurse competency. Manage shift schedules, breaks, and coverage needs. Act as a resource and mentor for bedside nurses. Clinical Oversight Ensure high standards of care for critically ill cardiothoracic patients. Promote best practices and continuing education within the unit. Emergency Response Leadership Take command during code blues, rapid responses, or patient decompensation.
