Job Summary:

The Piercer Mill in-charge will be responsible for overseeing the entire operations of the Piercer Mill section within the stainless steel pipe production unit. This role demands strong technical and leadership capabilities to ensure smooth, efficient, and high-quality production processes. The incumbent will play a key role in coordinating with cross-functional teams, implementing best practices, maintaining production targets, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Plant Details

Stainless Steel seamless pipe with Piercer & pilger mill with maximum size 168 mm & minimum size 6 mm. Monthly capacity 1200MT & will enhance till 5000MT per month.

Key Responsibilities:

• Production Management:

• Plan, monitor, and control production activities of the Piercer Mill to meet daily, weekly, and monthly production targets.
• Ensure optimal machine utilization and manpower deployment.
• Implement lean manufacturing practices to reduce waste and improve productivity.

• Process Optimization:

• Continuously analyse and improve piercing processes, machine parameters, and tooling for efficiency and output.
• Ensure proper setup and alignment of mill stands, mandrel, piercing tools, and rollers.
• Troubleshoot process and equipment issues to minimize downtime.

• Quality Assurance:

• Coordinate with QA/QC to ensure that products meet required dimensional and surface finish standards.
• Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs), process parameters, and quality checklists.

• Maintenance Coordination:

• Liaise with the maintenance team to schedule preventive and breakdown maintenance of the Piercer Mill and associated equipment.
• Maintain logbooks and documentation for all production and maintenance activities.

• Manpower Management:

• Supervise and lead a team of operators, technicians, and shift engineers.
• Provide training, guidance, and performance feedback to team members.

• Safety & Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with plant safety standards, risk assessments, and environmental policies.
• Promote and enforce safe working practices within the department.

• Reporting & Documentation:

• Prepare and submit daily/weekly/monthly production reports.
• Maintain inventory of raw materials, tools, and consumables related to the Piercer Mill.

Key Skills & Competencies:

• Strong technical knowledge of hot piercing processes and seamless stainless-steel tube/pipe manufacturing.
• Experience with rotary piercing mills, mandrel mills, or push bench processes.
• Ability to analyze production data and take corrective actions.
• Leadership and team management skills.
• Good understanding of TPM, 5S, and lean manufacturing principles.
• Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with ERP systems (SAP preferred).

Preferred Background:

• Candidates with prior experience in large-scale stainless steel seamless pipe manufacturing companies.
• Exposure to international standards (ASTM, ASME, EN, etc.) for stainless steel pipes and tubes.
