Design HOD(Solid Work)

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Department – SolidWorks Design to lead and manage the design team in developing and optimizing 2D/3D CAD models and engineering drawings for our manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in SolidWorks, mechanical design, and a deep understanding of manufacturing processes to drive innovation and efficiency in product development. Key Responsibilities: Department Leadership: Lead and manage the SolidWorks Design team, including assigning tasks, mentoring team members, and managing performance. Foster a culture of innovation, quality, and continuous improvement within the design department. Project Management: Oversee design projects from concept to production, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met. Coordinate with production, procurement, quality, and other departments to ensure smooth project execution. Design & Development: Drive the development of 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks. Ensure all designs comply with industry standards and customer specifications. Validate design feasibility, perform tolerance stack-ups, and initiate DFM/DFA reviews. Process & Quality Control: Establish design guidelines, best practices, and standard operating procedures for SolidWorks modeling. Conduct design reviews and ensure all documentation is accurate and up to date. Training & Development: Train and upskill the design team on advanced SolidWorks features, GD&T, BOM management, and PLM tools. Stay up-to-date with SolidWorks updates and new features, and implement them into workflow as needed. Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, production, marketing, and sales teams for new product development and product enhancements. Serve as the primary technical authority for all SolidWorks-related design decisions. Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. 8+ years of experience in mechanical design, with at least 3 years in a leadership role. Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks (Part Modeling, Assembly, Sheet Metal, Weldments, Drawing). Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (fabrication, machining, casting, etc.). Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and DFM/DFA principles. Experience working with PDM/PLM systems is preferred. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Preferred Skills: Experience in automation or special-purpose machinery design. Familiarity with simulation tools like SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS. Exposure to ISO/ASME design standards. Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification is a plus.
