Job Description

Job Summary:

RPSL is seeking dedicated and aspiring individuals to join our team on Container and Bulk Carrier vessels in various essential roles. These positions are crucial for the efficient and safe operation of our fleet, encompassing learning, deck maintenance, engine room support, and catering services. Successful candidates will contribute to our commitment to operational excellence and crew welfare.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Deck Cadet:

  • Assist with watchkeeping as a lookout or helmsman as required.
  • Perform general maintenance and cleaning of the ship's deck, superstructure, and cargo holds (chipping, painting, scrubbing, greasing).
  • Participate in mooring, unmooring, and anchoring operations.
  • Assist in cargo operations, including opening/closing hatches, rigging cargo gear, and securing cargo.
  • Maintain life-saving and fire-fighting appliances on deck.
  • Follow instructions from officers and senior ratings, ensuring compliance with safety procedures.

GP Rating (General Purpose Rating):

  • Perform duties on both the deck and in the engine room as required by operational needs.
  • Deck Duties:

    Assist with mooring and unmooring operations, handle cargo, maintain cleanliness and safety of deck areas, and participate in watchkeeping duties (e.g., lookout).

Engine Room Duties:

  • Support engineers in the operation, maintenance, and basic repair of machinery, including lubrication, cleaning of engine parts, and monitoring equipment.
  • Participate in routine maintenance work, including chipping, painting, general cleaning, and upkeep of various ship compartments.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company procedures, and participate in emergency drills.

General Steward:

  • Responsible for preparing and serving meals and beverages to the crew, ensuring high standards of hygiene and food safety in the galley.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the galley, mess rooms, cabins, and other communal areas.
  • Assist with inventory management of food provisions, galley supplies, and cabin amenities, ensuring proper storage and stock rotation.
  • Provide hospitality services to the crew, addressing their requests and contributing to a comfortable living environment onboard.
  • Participate in all safety drills and training, ensuring familiarity with emergency procedures.

Required Marine Courses/Certifications:

  • All necessary and valid Marine Courses as per STCW conventions are required for the respective role.
