Database Administrator

Role & responsibilities:

• Lead the design, setup, and configuration of Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Servers for enterprise applications.
• Manage Cassandra database clusters hosted on VMs, including setup, configuration, tuning, and lifecycle operations.
• Lead and execute database migration projects:
  o PostgreSQL migration from AWS RDS to Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server. o Cassandra data migration from AWS-hosted clusters to Azure VM clusters.
• Perform regular performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning.
• Design and implement high availability, disaster recovery, and backup/restore strategies.
• Automate operational tasks using Jenkins, Terraform, and scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python).
• Implement and monitor robust logging and alerting for proactive issue detection and resolution.
• Ensure database security and compliance through proper access control, encryption, and auditing.
• Collaborate with development and application teams to provide expert advice on performance tuning and query optimization.
• Perform zero-downtime upgrades and migrations with minimal impact to application availability.
• Act as a single point of contact (SPOC) for all database-related concerns, guiding stakeholders and driving database excellence.
• Manage large-scale databases supporting high-throughput, high-availability enterprise systems.
  

• Preferred candidate profile:

• Proven expertise in Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server: setup, configuration, performance tuning, administration, and lifecycle management.
• Hands-on experience managing Cassandra clusters on virtual machines.
• In-depth understanding of backup/restore strategies, replication, disaster recovery planning, and migration techniques.
• Strong proficiency in database automation using tools such as Jenkins, Terraform, and scripting.
• Experience with database security, cloud security, including authentication, authorization, encryption, and auditing.
• Ability to handle enterprise-scale database environments with high reliability and availability requirements.
• Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage zero-downtime upgrades and maintenance activities.
• Hands-on experience in cloud database migrations, especially will be an added advantage.
  o From AWS RDS PostgreSQL to Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server. o From AWS-hosted Cassandra to Azure-based Cassandra clusters.
• Preferred Qualifications:
  • Cloud certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator, AWS Certified Database Specialty).
