Job Description:

The IT MSSQL Database Administrator plays a crucial role in managing and maintaining the Microsoft SQL Server databases within the organization's IT infrastructure. This role requires a deep understanding of database management principles, strong technical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various teams.

Responsibilities:

1. Database Installation and Configuration: Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server instances across multiple environments, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
2. Database Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor database performance and identify opportunities for optimization, such as query tuning, index optimization, and database configuration adjustments.
3. Backup and Recovery: Implement and maintain database backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability in case of system failures or disasters.
4. Security Management: Manage database security by implementing access controls, encryption, and auditing mechanisms to safeguard sensitive data and comply with regulatory requirements.
5. Patch Management: Stay current with SQL Server patches and updates, and plan and execute patching activities in coordination with system administrators and other stakeholders.
6. Capacity Planning: Analyze database growth trends and plan for future capacity requirements, including storage allocation and hardware upgrades.
7. Performance Tuning: Proactively identify and address performance bottlenecks by analyzing system metrics, query execution plans, and database configurations.
8. High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Configure and manage high availability solutions such as database mirroring, clustering, and Always On Availability Groups to minimize downtime and data loss.
9. Automation and Scripting: Develop scripts and automation tools to streamline routine database administration tasks, improving efficiency and consistency.
10. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps, and generate regular reports on database performance and health.

Requirements:

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
2. Proven experience as a Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator or a similar role.
3. Strong understanding of database management concepts, including normalization, indexing, and transaction management.
4. Proficiency in SQL query language and experience with performance tuning techniques.
5. Familiarity with database security best practices and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
6. Hands-on experience with database backup and recovery solutions (e.g., SQL Server Backup, Veeam Backup & Replication).
7. Knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery concepts and experience implementing related solutions.
8. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
9. Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work well in a team environment.
10. Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Microsoft Certified: Data Management and Analytics would be a plus.
