Job Description

  • Provide round-the-clock medical care to patients admitted in the ICU and HDU (High Dependency Unit).
  • Assess, diagnose, and manage critically ill patients in collaboration with senior consultants.
  • Participate in daily ICU rounds, update case notes, and review treatment plans.
  • Ensure timely interventions in emergencies including airway management, ventilator management, and resuscitation.
  • Perform procedures such as

    central line insertion, arterial line placement

    ,

    endotracheal intubation

    , and

    tracheostomy

    under supervision or independently (as per competency).
  • Ensure adherence to infection control and patient safety protocols.

2. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in the EMR (Electronic Medical Record) or case sheets.
  • Document all clinical decisions, progress notes, and orders clearly and promptly.
  • Participate in mortality and morbidity reviews and prepare relevant reports as required.

3. Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate with consultants, nursing staff, and allied health professionals for holistic patient care.
  • Communicate effectively with patient families regarding treatment plans, updates, and prognosis under supervision of senior consultants.
  • Support transfer and referral processes within and outside the hospital.

4. Academic & Training Activities

  • Participate actively in departmental CME programs, clinical case discussions, and academic meetings.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay updated with recent advancements in critical care.
  • Mentor and guide residents and interns during clinical rotations.

5. Quality & Compliance

  • Adhere to hospital policies, SOPs, and accreditation standards (NABH).
  • Participate in audits, infection control initiatives, and quality improvement programs.
  • Report any adverse clinical events promptly and assist in root cause analysis.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education:

    MD / DNB / Anaesthesia & Critical Care.
  • Experience:

    13 years of experience in ICU / Critical Care setup (post-PG).
  • Certifications:

    ACLS and BLS mandatory. ATLS preferred.

Skills:

  • Sound clinical knowledge in managing critically ill patients
  • Proficiency in ICU procedures and ventilator management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and handle emergencies effectively
