Description

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the clinical care of critically ill medical, surgical, trauma, cardiac, and post-operative patients in the ICU.
  • Perform advanced procedures such as 

    endotracheal intubation, central venous access, arterial line insertion, mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring

    , and other ICU interventions.
  • Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as per evolving clinical conditions.
  • Coordinate closely with consultants from other departments (Cardiology, Nephrology, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, etc.) for integrated critical care.
  • Participate in the management of 

    Code Blue

     and rapid response situations throughout the hospital.
  • Ensure evidence-based use of antibiotics, sedation, and other ICU medications in accordance with hospital protocols.

Supervision & Coordination

  • Supervise junior doctors, residents, nurses, and respiratory therapists working in the ICU.
  • Conduct 

    daily multidisciplinary rounds

     to ensure holistic patient management.
  • Maintain ICU discipline, infection control, and equipment readiness at all times.
  • Coordinate with the biomedical and nursing teams for the upkeep and calibration of critical care equipment.

Administrative & Academic Contributions

  • Maintain detailed and accurate ICU documentation, progress notes, and handover reports.
  • Participate in 

    clinical audits, mortality reviews, and infection control meetings

    .
  • Develop and update 

    ICU protocols, care bundles, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)

    .
  • Conduct regular 

    training sessions, mock drills, and CME programs

     for doctors and nursing staff.
  • Support hospital initiatives in 

    quality assurance, NABH accreditation, and emergency preparedness

    .

Patient & Family Engagement

  • Provide clear communication and counselling to patient relatives regarding prognosis, treatment progress, and ICU procedures.
  • Uphold confidentiality, empathy, and compassion while dealing with families in critical situations.
