Corporate Paralegal

As the Privacy Compliance Manager at Avalara, you will be responsible for further developing the privacy governance to align with domestic and international regulations. Your role involves conducting regular privacy risk assessments, managing privacy impact assessments, and delivering training programs to promote a strong culture of data protection awareness among employees. By advocating for privacy by design principles and practices, you will uphold the highest standards of data protection to improve compliance posture and build trust with partners. - Conduct privacy compliance activities such as creating privacy impact assessments, records of processing activities, data protection impact assessments, and privacy gap analyses - Identify gaps in internal privacy compliance and documentation and report on related metrics - Collaborate with partners such as Legal, Risk, Security, Product, and Engineering to manage evolving privacy obligations - Facilitate and manage process tracking as a member of Avalara's Global Privacy Office - Implement Privacy by Design principles into product development - Develop training on privacy policies, procedures, and global regulations to champion privacy awareness across the company - Stay updated on new technologies and regulatory changes to advise the Privacy Office and senior management on privacy trends and compliance strategies - Support projects addressing global privacy obligations across multiple teams - Manage privacy-related inquiries from partners and track, investigate, and respond to privacy/security incidents Qualifications Required: - 5+ years of experience managing privacy programs - Bachelor's degree completion - Knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, and other privacy regulations - Experience with BigID, OneTrust, and ServiceNow - Ability to translate legal or contractual requirements to technical controls - Professional experience in participating in audits such as SOC and ISO - Certification in CISSP or CIPP Avalara is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and supports an inclusive culture.
