The Commis II is an entry-level position in the kitchen brigade, responsible for assisting senior chefs in preparing, cooking, and presenting dishes
This role provides hands-on experience in a professional kitchen and is a stepping stone toward higher culinary positions
Essential Job Tasks
Prepare mise en place (ingredients ready before service)
Cook basic dishes (soups, sauces, vegetables, rice, pasta, etc) under guidance Assist in plating and garnishing dishes itor food stock levels and report shortages Follow standard recipes and instructions from Chef de Partie Label and store food items correctly to avoid waste Adhere to HACCP and food safety regulations Dispose of waste responsibly and keep kitchen organized Assist in cleaning kitchen equipment after use Support in training new Commis staff when required
Areas of Responsibility
Assist senior chefs in preparing and cooking dishes
Wash, peel, chop, and portion ingredients Operate kitchen tools and equipment safely Ensure food presentation and portion control meet standards Maintain cleanliness of workstations and kitchen areas Receive and store deliveries properly Work efficiently to meet service times Support team members during busy service periods
Required Qualifications
Culinary diploma or equivalent training
Prior experience as Commis III or kitchen helper preferred Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment Good communication and teamwork skills Knowledge of basic cooking techniques and hygiene standards
Work Experience
Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a professional kitchen environment
Prior role as Commis III or Kitchen Helper preferred Experience in hotels, fine dining restaurants, or catering services is an advantage Exposure to different cuisines and cooking methods is desirable
