Commi Chef

A "Commis 1" job description involves assisting senior chefs in preparing ingredients and dishes, maintaining a clean and organized workstation, and following food safety standards. Key duties include washing, peeling, and chopping ingredients, cooking basic dishes, plating meals, and managing inventory, while collaborating with other kitchen staff to ensure efficient service. Key responsibilities

• Food preparation: Wash, peel, and chop fruits and vegetables; prepare basic salads, sauces, and other menu items.
• Dish production: Assist in the preparation and cooking of dishes under the guidance of a senior chef.
• Quality and presentation: Plate and present food items, ensuring they meet high standards of quality and presentation.
• Kitchen hygiene and safety: Maintain a clean and sanitized work station, follow food safety and hygiene regulations, and handle waste disposal properly.
• Inventory and stock management: Take inventory of supplies, discard expired items, and manage stock to minimize waste.
• Collaboration: Work with other kitchen staff and chefs to ensure seamless service delivery.

Required skills and qualifications

• Experience: Proven experience in a commis or cook position.
• Knowledge: Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, ingredients, and cooking methods, which may be specific to a certain cuisine (e.g., Asian, continental, Indian, or bakery).
• Teamwork: Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Organizational skills: Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and maintain an organized workstation.
• Equipment familiarity: Knowledge of standard kitchen equipment.
• Compliance: Adherence to food health and safety regulations.
