Job Description

A Senior Registrar doctors job involves advanced patient care, leadership, and teaching, acting as a bridge between residents and consultants; key duties include managing complex cases, supervising junior staff (residents, medical students), performing procedures, overseeing ward operations, ensuring documentation, and participating in research, with a focus on high-quality, independent patient management and training the next generation of doctors.
Key Responsibilities:Clinical Care: Diagnose, treat, and manage complex cases in specialized areas (e g, Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine), often handling emergencies and high-acuity patients.Leadership & Supervision: Serve as a clinical leader, overseeing junior doctors and nurses, guiding daily ward activities, and ensuring adherence to protocols.Teaching & Mentorship: Educate, mentor, and train junior medical staff, providing guidance during rounds, case discussions, and complex procedures.Procedural Skills: Perform advanced procedures and assist in surgeries, depending on their specialty.Documentation & Audits: Ensure accurate patient records and participate in quality assurance, audits, and research to improve care.Patient & Family Education: Educate patients and families about conditions, treatment plans, and self-management. Role in the Medical Hierarchy:A Senior Registrar is a senior trainee nearing consultant status, post-residency, providing more autonomy than junior residents but still under consultant guidance.The role offers extensive experience, often through rotations, preparing them for consultant-level roles.
