Department: Engineering / Project Development Reports To: Vice President - Projects / Director - Engineering Position Overview The Chief Engineer (Civil) will play a pivotal role in the successful execution of the companys real estate projects, overseeing all civil engineering activities from design and planning through to execution, quality control, and handover. This senior leadership role requires deep technical expertise, a strategic mindset, and exceptional project management skills to ensure that all civil works align with the companys standards for quality, safety, sustainability, and profitability. The Chief Engineer will work closely with architects, MEP engineers, contractors, consultants, and internal teams to deliver landmark residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments that meet or exceed client and stakeholder expectations. Key responsibilities include: Leading civil engineering across real estate projects. Technical oversight during design and execution stages. Project and construction management. Vendor & contractor coordination. Quality, safety, and compliance assurance. Financial and team leadership. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Lead the civil engineering function for all real estate development projects, ensuring alignment with company vision, timelines, and profitability targets. Provide expert input during land acquisition, project feasibility, and concept design stages. Develop and enforce civil engineering standards, guidelines, and best practices tailored to the real estate sector. Design & Technical Oversight Review, validate, and approve all civil and structural designs, drawings, BOQs, and technical documentation. Coordinate with design teams (architects, structural engineers, landscape designers) to ensure design integration and constructability. Ensure adherence to local building codes, development control regulations (DCR), national standards (IS codes), and relevant environmental and sustainability norms. Project Management Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of civil works across multiple projects. Define project scopes, deliverables, milestones, and resource allocations. Monitor progress, conduct risk assessments, and implement corrective actions where necessary to keep projects on track. Construction Supervision Supervise on-site execution to ensure high standards of workmanship, material quality, and safety. Conduct regular site visits, technical audits, and inspections. Approve contractors work methods, materials, and construction techniques, ensuring alignment with approved designs. Vendor & Contractor Management Evaluate and recommend civil contractors, consultants, and suppliers. Negotiate and finalize contracts, ensuring clarity in scope, deliverables, and performance standards. Monitor contractor performance and resolve disputes or issues as they arise. Quality & Compliance Establish and implement robust quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) systems for all civil works. Ensure compliance with statutory approvals (e.g., municipal approvals, environmental clearances, fire NOCs). Promote safe construction practices, ensuring adherence to occupational health and safety (OHS) standards. Financial Oversight Support budgeting, cost estimation, and value engineering initiatives to optimize costs without compromising on quality. Approve civil engineering bills, progress payments, and change orders. Track project expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities. Team Leadership & Development Lead, mentor, and develop a team of civil engineers, site engineers, and supervisors. Foster a high-performance, collaborative work culture. Identify training needs and upskilling opportunities for the engineering team. Qualifications & Experience Bachelors degree (B.E. / B.Tech) in Civil Engineering; Masters degree (M.E. / M.Tech) preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CE) certification is advantageous. 12-20 years of progressive experience in civil engineering, with at least 5-7 years in a senior or leadership role within the real estate sector. Proven track record of delivering large-scale residential, commercial, or mixed-use developments. In-depth knowledge of structural engineering, geotechnical design, foundation systems, RCC, and steel structures. Strong understanding of municipal and regulatory approval processes. Proficiency in engineering and project management software (AutoCAD, STAAD Pro, ETABS, MS Project, Primavera).
