SECTION I: BASIC INFORMATION

Job Function - Environment, Health & Safety (EHS)

Role - Head EHS (Business Unit)

Base Location - Chennai (HQ)

Reporting To - BU Head / IC EHS Head

SECTION II: ROLE SUMMARY (Purpose of the Role)

The Head EHS (Business Unit) is responsible for leading and driving the Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) strategy and programs across the BU. The role ensures full compliance with applicable statutory, regulatory, and corporate EHS requirements while fostering a proactive safety culture that aims for zero incidents. This leadership position provides strategic direction, ensures the integration of EHS principles into all business processes, and partners with BU leadership to enhance operational excellence through robust risk management, training, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role also represents the BU in external forums, audits, and regulatory interactions, reinforcing L&Ts commitment to sustainability, safety, and environmental stewardship.

SECTION III: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Policy & Strategy

1. Develop, implement, and monitor BU-level EHS policies, programs, and objectives aligned with corporate strategy and statutory requirements.

2. Drive implementation of ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 standards and ensure continual improvement of the EHS Management System (EHSMS).

  • Risk Management & Control

3. Identify and assess potential risks and establish preventive and control measures.

4. Lead root cause analyses of incidents and ensure timely corrective and preventive actions.

5. Implement engineering controls and process improvements for permanent risk mitigation.

  • Compliance & Governance

6. Ensure full compliance with applicable environmental, occupational health, and safety regulations.

7. Liaise with government authorities and statutory bodies for compliance, audits, and inspections.

8. Maintain up-to-date records, reports, and documentation as per internal and external audit requirements.

  • EHS Performance & Digital Initiatives

9. Monitor and analyze EHS performance indicators and present monthly dashboards and reports to BU leadership.

10. Drive digital initiatives and implement innovative tools for EHS monitoring, reporting, and analytics.

  • Audits, Inspections & Training

11. Conduct regular audits and workplace inspections to identify and eliminate unsafe conditions and practices.

12. Develop and conduct EHS training, workshops, and awareness programs to build competency and safety ownership across the workforce.

  • Culture & Leadership

13. Champion a 'Zero Tolerance' and 'Accident-Free' culture within the BU.

14. Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to EHS teams across projects.

15. Collaborate closely with cross-functional leaders to embed EHS in planning and execution.

  • Representation & External Engagement

16. Represent BU at internal and external EHS forums, conferences, and industry associations.

17. Drive participation in national and international EHS awards and benchmarking programs to enhance organizational reputation.

Internal: BU Head, IC EHS Head, Project Directors, HR, Functional Heads, Strategic Planning Team

External: Regulatory Authorities, Certification Bodies, Industry Experts, Consultants, Clients, and Service Providers

SECTION V: QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Educational Qualification

Engineering Graduate (Civil / Mechanical ) with Diploma / Bachelors / Masters in Industrial Safety from a recognized institute

Certifications

NEBOSH / IOSH / OSHA preferred

Experience

Minimum 20 years of relevant experience in EHS management within EPC / Infrastructure / Industrial Projects
