Job Description

Roles of a CAM DesignerDesign & Development Support Convert CAD models into CAM programs for manufacturing. Develop tool paths, machining strategies, and NC (Numerical Control) codes. Manufacturing Process Planning Select suitable tools, cutting parameters, and machining sequences. Ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective. Collaboration Work closely with design engineers, production teams, and quality departments. Provide technical input to improve product manufacturability. Optimization Enhance machining efficiency by reducing cycle times. Minimize material waste and tool wear. Quality & Compliance Ensure accuracy of tool paths to meet dimensional and tolerance requirements. Follow industry standards and safety protocols. Responsibilities of a CAM DesignerInterpret 2D/3D CAD drawings and models for CAM applications. Generate CNC programs (M-code, G-code) using CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, NX CAM, SolidCAM, CATIA, Fusion 360, etc.). Simulate machining processes to verify tool paths and detect collisions. Optimize cutting strategies (milling, turning, drilling, EDM, etc.). Maintain CAM databases (tool libraries, machining templates). Troubleshoot programming errors and modify NC programs as required. Document machining setups, operation sheets, and process instructions. Support continuous improvement initiatives in manufacturing. Train operators or junior programmers in CAM processes. Stay updated with the latest CAM software features and manufacturing technologies.
