The Post

As a major Strategic Business Unit within NHS National Services Scotland, the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) plays a vital role not only in the health of the people of Scotland but also on an international scale – through our leading position in new product development, biomedical research and donor services. Our goal is to maintain the highest standards to patient care whilst remaining internationally competitive.A number of posts are available for either suitably qualified HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists or individuals who are educated to degree / equivalent level with a qualification accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) which would allow registration through the trainee BMS route.For non HCPC registered applicants, please provide any further information on qualifications or education you feel is relevant, please note if this information is not provided your application may not be progressed.The following information below is required to confirm your Degree is accredited with IBMS to allow registration with the HCPC.

This is an excellent opportunity to join the team of Biomedical Scientists and Biomedical Support Workers working within the Manufacturing Department. The Manufacturing Department provides an essential service towards the provision of healthcare in Scotland. The department is responsible for manufacturing and testing specialised blood components from both whole blood and apheresis collections and has a vital role in the supply of high quality blood components to other SNBTS sites and hospitals throughout Scotland.

The Candidate

The post holders will be members of a team working within the manufacturing departments. As part of that team, they will work to ensure that service delivery is carried out in a timely and efficient manner and to the highest of quality standards necessary to meet regulatory requirements. The post holders will be expected to undertake shift working as part of their role. (Pattern covers 24/7/365).This post is within the SNBTS Manufacturing facility, specifically the donor testing department. Experience of working in a transfusion/pathology laboratory environment would be advantageous but is not essential. This position provides an exciting and challenging opportunity for suitably experienced, qualified and motivated Healthcare professionals.The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who have lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.

Location and Working Pattern:

The Jack Copland Centre, 52 Research Avenue North, Herriot-Watt Research Park, Edinburgh. EH14 4BEMonday to Sunday, 37 hours per week.The post holders will be expected to undertake shift working as part of their role. (Pattern covers 24/7/365)It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
