Job Description

Job Summary:

Battery Management Systems (BMS) Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop

    Battery Management Systems (hardware & software)

    for lithium-ion and other advanced battery chemistries.
  • Define system architecture including

    cell monitoring units (CMU), battery control units (BCU/VCU), and power distribution

    .
  • Develop and validate

    SOC (State of Charge)

    ,

    SOH (State of Health)

    ,

    SOP (State of Power)

    estimation algorithms.
  • Interface with

    embedded software teams

    to develop firmware for real-time control, protection, and communication.
  • Work on

    thermal management strategies

    and battery pack protection mechanisms.
  • Develop and maintain

    CAN, SPI, UART communication protocols

    and diagnostics (UDS, OBD).
  • Integrate BMS with other vehicle systems such as inverters, chargers, and telematics.
  • Conduct

    simulation, HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop), and bench-level testing

    for performance validation and fault analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with

    functional safety standards (ISO 26262)

    and

    battery certifications (UN 38.3, AIS 048, IEC 62660)

    .
  • Work with

    cell vendors, pack designers, and external test labs

    to optimize system performance and reliability.
  • Create detailed

    technical documentation

    , test plans, and reports for internal and regulatory use.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of

    Li-ion battery chemistry

    , cell balancing (passive/active), and battery pack architecture.
  • Experience with

    MATLAB/Simulink

    ,

    Altium Designer

    ,

    LTspice

    , or

    PSIM

    .
  • Proficiency in

    embedded C/C++

    , especially for automotive-grade microcontrollers (TI, ST, NXP, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with

    CAN tools

    (CANalyzer, CANoe),

    ETAS INCA

    , and

    diagnostic protocols

    .
  • Experience with

    safety-critical system design

    ,

    FMEA

    ,

    ISO 26262

    , and

    ASIL

    levels.
  • Familiarity with

    battery testing equipment

    : cyclers, impedance analyzers, thermal chambers, etc.

Preferred/Bonus Skills:

  • Knowledge of

    Battery Cell Modeling

    and

    Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS)

    .
  • Experience in

    EV architecture

    , working on

    VCU-BMS integration

    .
  • Exposure to

    cloud-based BMS monitoring systems

    (IoT for battery diagnostics).
  • Experience in

    automotive standards

    such as

    ISO 15118

    ,

    ISO 21434

    , and

    AUTOSAR

    .
  • Knowledge of

    battery pack design

    ,

    mechanical constraints

    , and

    thermal simulation tools

    (e.g., ANSYS, FloTHERM).
