The
Assistant Manager - Scaffolding & Cleaning
is a key production leader responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient execution of all temporary access (scaffolding) and industrial cleaning operations at the Ship Construction Site (SCS). This role ensures a safe working environment at heights for all trades and guarantees that all cleaning activities meet quality benchmarks and international safety standards.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
1. Scaffolding Management
- Supervise the full lifecycle of scaffolding and access structures erection, modification, inspection, and dismantling as per approved Safe Work Procedures (SWA/SW/WI/09) and relevant standards.
- Ensure scaffold structures are designed, installed, and maintained in compliance with safety and engineering norms.
2. Scaffolding Safety & Certification
- Ensure only certified scaffolding personnel execute work.
- Verify correct usage of Scaffold Tags (Green/Red) and ensure inspections are performed daily/weekly, documented, and approved by a certified inspector.
3. Cleaning Operations
- Oversee execution of various industrial cleaning processes as per approved procedures (SWA/SW/WI/10).
- Ensure adherence to cleaning quality standards and environmental safety requirements.
4. Resource & Production Control
- Develop detailed micro-schedules for scaffolding and cleaning tasks based on the General Production Schedule (GPS).
- Plan and manage manpower, materials, and equipment to ensure timely availability of access and cleanliness for all trades.
5. Safety and QHSE Compliance
- Enforce strict compliance with all QHSE policies, especially related to Working at Height.
- Ensure all operations conform to company policies, ISO quality, and safety standards.
6. Maintenance & Housekeeping
- Implement 5S principles for effective housekeeping in assigned work areas.
- Maintain scaffolding and cleaning equipment inventory, ensuring regular inspections and upkeep.
7. Coordination
- Act as the primary point of contact for scaffolding and cleaning requirements.
- Coordinate effectively with Production, Quality Control (QC), and Yard Services teams to ensure smooth execution.
Educational Qualification:
- bachelors Degree or Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical or Civil) from a recognized institution.
Mandatory Certifications:
- Certified Scaffolding Supervisor/Inspector (CISRS or equivalent national/international certification).
Desirable Certifications:
- Confined Space Entry Supervision and Safety certification.
Experience:
- Minimum
4-8 years
of relevant experience managing large-scale industrial scaffolding and cleaning operations, preferably in a Shipyard, Construction, or Heavy Engineering environment. - Proven track record in a supervisory or managerial role.
Functional and Behavioral Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of scaffolding design, load calculation, erection/dismantling standards, and safety practices.
- Familiarity with confined space safety protocols and industrial cleaning methods.
- Strong leadership and planning skills with a focus on safety, team management, and timely execution.
- Excellent communication, decision-making, and coordination abilities under pressure.
