Bar Bending Schedules (BBS)

Key Responsibilities

BBS Preparation & Checking

• Prepare BBS for RCC elements (footings, rafts, columns, beams, slabs, walls, staircases, shear walls, retaining walls, etc.).
  
• Interpret structural drawings, bar marks, laps, hooks, bends, anchorage, cover, and detailing notes per applicable codes.
  
• Develop cutting lists and bending schedules with bar diameter, shape code, length, quantity, and weight.
  
• Cross-check BBS against drawings, revisions, and site requirements; ensure version control.
  

Coordination & RFIs

• Coordinate with Structural Design, Drafting, Planning, QS, and Site Execution teams for clarifications and constructability.
  
• Raise RFIs for detailing discrepancies (conflicting sections, missing bar details, unclear laps/curtailments).
  
• Support bar placement sequencing and resolve site queries during reinforcement fixing.
  

Quantity & Consumption Control

• Provide reinforcement quantities for BOQ/estimation support and project budgeting.
  
• Track rebar consumption vs. theoretical quantities; analyze wastage, laps, and variation reasons.
  
• Support reconciliation with contractors/fabricators and assist in billing/measurement processes where required.
  

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain BBS register, revision logs, and approvals.
  
• Prepare weekly/monthly reports: BBS issued, pending elements, consumption variance, pending RFIs.
  
• Ensure deliverables adhere to project QA/QC requirements and documentation standards.
  

Tools & Standards

• Use Excel-based BBS templates and/or software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, RebarCAD/AutoBAR/TEKLA/TQSwhichever your org uses).
  
• Apply relevant detailing standards/codes (e.g., IS/BS/ACI as per project).
  

Key Deliverables

• Approved BBS and cutting lists (element-wise and pour-wise).
  
• Rebar quantity summaries (diameter-wise and structure-wise).
  
• Consumption vs. theoretical reconciliation and variance notes.
  
• RFI/clarification log and closure status.
  

Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of RCC reinforcement detailing concepts and site constructability.
  
• High accuracy with quantities, laps, bend allowances, and rebar weight calculations.
  
• Proficiency in Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables preferred) and AutoCAD.
  
• Ability to manage multiple zones/pours with tight timelines.
  
• Good coordination and communication with site and design stakeholders.
  

Qualifications

• Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  

Experience

• 5–8 years

  in BBS preparation/checking for building/infrastructure projects (adjust as needed).
• Experience working with contractors/fabricators and site execution teams preferred.
