Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee and manage electrical operations of CPP (e.g., coal/WHRB/AFBC/CFBC/TG sets, depending on setup).
  • Ensure reliable performance of electrical systems including HT motors, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, PCCs, and control panels.
  • Lead preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor power generation, distribution, and consumption for efficiency and cost optimization.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical expertise in troubleshooting electrical failures and protection-related issues.
  • Drive root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective & preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and safety requirements (CEA regulations, IER, and other power-related standards).
  • Implement new technologies for energy efficiency, automation, and digitalization in power plant operations.

Team Management & Development

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, supervisors, and technicians.
  • Build technical competencies and encourage cross-functional learning within the electrical team.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and accountability.

Project Management

  • Oversee electrical-related projects such as capacity expansion, modernization, and upgrades.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals and ensure timely execution of electrical CAPEX & OPEX projects.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, instrumentation, and production teams for smooth operations.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with ISO/EMS/OHSAS/other quality systems.
  • Maintain updated records of equipment history, maintenance schedules, and statutory inspections.
  • Liaise with statutory bodies for inspections, approvals, and audits.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of power plant electrical systems (Generators, HT/LT distribution, switchgear, transformers, protection relays).
  • Expertise in electrical safety standards, energy management, and reliability practices.
  • Hands-on experience in SCADA/DCS, PLCs, and advanced automation systems (preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership, team-building, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills across functions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education:

    B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (M.Tech preferred).
  • Experience:

    1520 years in Electrical O&M in power plants, with at least 5 years in a leadership role (preferably in captive power plants of steel/metal industries).
  • Certifications:

    CEA Electrical Supervisor Certificate (if applicable), ISO/OHSAS/energy management certifications desirable.
