Assistant general Manager- Blast Furnace Mechanical Project

Role & responsibilities

Project Scope:

680 m Blast Furnace

Key Responsibilities:

1. Mechanical Execution and Planning

• Lead complete mechanical execution of:
  

• Blast Furnace shell and top equipment

• Bell-less top charging system

• Stock house (screens, bins, weighing hoppers, conveyors, feeders)

• Hot Blast System (Cowper Stoves, bustle main, tuyere stocks, blowers)

• Cast House equipment

  – tap hole drill, clay gun, runners, slag granulation

• Gas Cleaning Plant (GCP):

  dust catcher, cyclone, scrubber, water systems,
• TRT, Blower, Water system, Conveyor system.
  
• Develop erection sequencing, milestone planning, and resource scheduling.
  

2. Vendor & Contractor Coordination

• Interface with:
  
• OEMs for technical discussion and equipment alignment
  
• Mechanical contractors for erection supervision
  
• Civil/structural teams for foundation readiness
  
• Monitor site readiness, steel structure erection, alignment of major assemblies.
  

3. Quality Assurance & Safety

• Review and approve mechanical drawings, method statements, QAPs, and WPS.
  
• Ensure adherence to quality norms (IS, DIN, ASME standards) and welding inspections (RT, UT, DPT).
  
• Implement and monitor strict adherence to safety protocols during heavy erection work (lifting plans, scaffolding, confined space work).
  

4. Progress Monitoring & Reporting

• Track mechanical progress against project schedule using tools like MS Project or Primavera.
  
• Resolve bottlenecks related to material delays, manpower issues, or contractor performance.
  
• Prepare weekly/monthly progress reports, project dashboards, and presentations for senior management.
  

5. Pre-commissioning & Commissioning

• Oversee water flushing, pneumatic/hydro testing of pipelines, dry-outs of stoves and refractory systems.
  
• Conduct system trials for cooling water system, compressed air, skip hoist, and GCP.
  
• Support in blow-in activities and ensure mechanical readiness for hot commissioning.
  

Technical Competencies:

• Deep knowledge of

  Blast Furnace technology and equipment

• Strong understanding of:
  
• Cast House hydraulic systems and granulation
  
• Hot blast stoves, expansion joints, and ducting systems
  
• GCP instrumentation interfaces (temperature, pressure, differential pressure)
