Apprentice - Metallurgist and Material Engineering

As an apprentice at Oceaneering India Center, your role involves supporting the selection, testing, and improvement of materials used in manufacturing components and products. You will assist in evaluating material properties like strength, durability, and corrosion resistance, analyze material specifications, and learn to conduct basic failure analysis. Working alongside design and engineering teams, you will contribute to material improvement suggestions and support Material Deviation requests. Staying informed about new materials, sustainability efforts, and industry standards is crucial in this collaborative environment. **Key Responsibilities:** - Familiarity with various materials and heat treatment processes (metallic and non-metallic). - Conversant with ferrous and non-ferrous castings, heat-treated forgings, raw materials, suspension/sintered parts, and metal joining/friction welding. - Root cause analysis and problem-solving ability. - Advising on appropriate metals and alloys for specific applications. - Investigating and diagnosing the cause of material failure and recommending corrective actions. **Qualifications:** **Required:** - Graduate or Postgraduate in Metallurgy / Material Science Technology BE or B Tech from a reputed University. **Desired:** - Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. - Training in Software tools like PTC Windchill for PLM, ANSYS, MATLAB, or other material simulation software is a plus. - Knowledge of ISO and ASTM standards, and relevant certifications may be beneficial. In this role, your strong teamwork abilities and willingness to learn will be essential for your success. Additionally, being familiar with metallic additive manufacturing and having an understanding of technical requirements, customer specifications, and NDT will be advantageous.
