Airport Ground Staff

The primary role of ground staff is to ensure passenger safety, comfort, and the efficient turnaround of aircraft on the ground. Duties are generally divided into two main categories: Passenger Services and Technical/Ramp Operations.

Passenger Services (Inside the Terminal):

• Greeting and Assisting Passengers:

  Welcoming travelers and providing information, directions, and general assistance.

• Check-in and Ticketing:

  Manning check-in counters, verifying travel documents (tickets, passports, IDs), issuing boarding passes, and processing checked baggage.

• Boarding and Disembarkation:

  Making boarding announcements, assisting passengers at the gate, guiding them to the aircraft, and facilitating a smooth exit upon arrival.

• Special Assistance:

  Providing extra help to passengers with special needs, disabled individuals, the elderly, and unaccompanied minors.

• Problem Solving:

  Handling passenger inquiries, complaints, and issues related to flight delays, cancellations, or lost/damaged baggage.

Technical & Ramp Operations (Outside on the Tarmac):

• Baggage and Cargo Handling:

  Loading and unloading luggage and cargo from the aircraft and transporting it to the correct areas.

• Aircraft Marshalling:

  Guiding the aircraft to and from parking bays using visual signals.

• Aircraft Servicing:

  Coordinating and overseeing essential services such as refueling, cabin cleaning, and restocking catering supplies before departure.

• Safety and Security:

  Conducting safety checks around the aircraft and ensuring compliance with all aviation safety and security regulations.

• Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Operation:

  Operating various machinery like tugs, air starters, and baggage carts.
