ABAP Manager

Role & responsibilities

• Lead full lifecycle SAP ABAP development projects: from requirements gathering to design, development, unit testing, integration, UAT, deployment and post-go-live support.
• Develop and maintain technical specifications in alignment with functional specifications.
• Design and build custom ABAP Objects (Reports, ALV, Module Pool, Smartforms / Adobe Forms, Dialog Programming, Search Helps, Tables, Views etc.).
• Work with ABAP on HANA capabilities: CDS Views, AMDP, OData Services, custom code push-down strategies.
• Integrate SAP ABAP with other systems / cloud / third-party tools via web services, proxies, RFCs.
• Performance tuning & optimization of custom ABAP code; ensure system health and code quality.
• Handle code remediation activities: upgrades, compatibility issues, resolving SPDD / SPAU adjustments, fixes for custom code post-upgrade / migration.
• Conduct code reviews, enforce coding standards, naming conventions and best practices.
• Support version control, transport management and release cycles.
• Collaborate with Basis, Integration, Fiori/UI5 teams for cross-functional delivery.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, training for junior/senior ABAP developers.
• Stakeholder management; interface with functional consultants, IT leadership, business users; ensure delivery timelines, manage risks and technical debt.
  

Preferred candidate profile

• Expertise in CDS Views, AMDP, OData Services, and performance optimization on HANA.
• Strong command over Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, Forms, and Workflows.
• Object-Oriented ABAP (OOABAP) Advanced programming using classes, methods, and design patterns.
• Integration Skills – Experience with IDocs, RFCs, Web Services, and cross-module integrations (MM, SD, FICO).
• Code Optimization & Quality Management – Proficiency in debugging, performance tuning, SPAU/SPDD handling, and adherence to SAP coding standards.
