Role & responsibilities

ROLE SUMMARY

The Zonal Manager Gold Inspection at MFL is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of gold appraisal, inspection quality, operational compliance, and risk mitigation across all branches within the assigned zone. The role provides oversight, guidance, and supervision to branch-level inspectors and teams, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and consistency in gold loan operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Gold Inspection and Quality Control

• Oversee and conduct detailed inspections of pledged gold across branches in the zone, ensuring precision in purity assessment, weight measurement, and valuation.
• Implement and monitor quality control measures to ensure uniformity and accuracy in the appraisal process across the zone.
• Ensure timely identification, reporting, and escalation of spurious gold ornaments detected during inspections.
• Review and validate all purity index updates made by branches and ensure system accuracy.

Compliance, Monitoring, and Risk Mitigation

• Observe, record, and report discrepancies, malpractices, or anomalies noted during branch inspections within the zone.
• Ensure all documentation and records related to gold appraisal are accurate, complete, and compliant with internal and regulatory guidelines.
• Conduct branch handover or takeover exercises as required by the management and submit relevant reports to the Head of Gold Inspection.

Coordination and Branch Support

• Provide guidance and support to branch employees, ensuring smooth coordination and efficient gold inspection processes at all branch locations.
• Act as a zonal escalation point for gold inspection related queries, discrepancies, and operational challenges.
• Stay updated on gold market trends and guide branches on value influencing factors.

Auction and Special Operations

• Lead and oversee auction related activities within the zone in line with departmental directions.
• Verify, seal, and audit auction packets and coordinate any pre-auction special inspections as instructed by the department head.

KEY SKILLS & BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES

• Attention to detail, good communication in candidates own vernacular, integrity, analytical skills and teamwork.
• Strong knowledge of gold purity evaluation techniques and appraisal standards.
• Experience in operational audits, branch processes, or gold loan operations preferred.
• High attention to detail, integrity, and risk awareness.
• Ability to travel extensively across branches in the assigned zone.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualification: Any degree except fine arts.

Nature of Experience:

• Retired banker with significant experience in branch operations, audit, or gold/asset-backed loan operations.
• Minimum 25 years of banking experience, preferably with exposure to gold loan or secured lending operations.
• At least 7+ years in supervisory, regional, or zonal roles overseeing multiple branches.
