Visiting Consultant

Job Purpose:

To provide clinical anesthesia services in operation theatre both routine and emergency.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Clinical Responsibility :

• Administer anesthetic during surgical procedures using state-of-the-art techniques appropriate to the needs of the procedure.


• Confer with other medical professionals to determine type and method of anesthetic or sedation to render patient insensible to pain.


• Coordinate administration of anesthetics with surgeons during operation.


• Decide when patients have recovered or stabilized enough to be sent to another room or ward or to be sent home following outpatient surgery.


• Examine patientobtain medical history and use diagnostic tests to determine risk during surgicalobstetricaland other surgical procedures.


• Monitor patient beforeduringand after anesthesia and counteract adverse reactions or complications.


• Take part in the patient management in the intensive care unit and hasten recovery and take steps to reduce ITU /hospital stay.


• Record type and amount of anesthesia and patient condition throughout procedure.


• Order laboratory testsx-rays and other diagnostic procedures.


• Position patient on operating table to maximize patient comfort and surgical accessibility.


• Provide and maintain life support and airway managementand help prepare patients for emergency surgery.


• Provide medical care and consultation in many settingsprescribing medication and treatment and referring patients for surgery.

1. Administrative:

• Coordinate and direct work of nursesmedical technicians and other health care providers.


• Inform students and staff of types and methods of anesthesia administrationsigns of complicationsand emergency methods to counteract reactions.


• Manage anesthesiological servicescoordinating them with other medical activities and formulating plans and procedures.


• Schedule and maintain use of surgical suiteincluding operatingwash-upwaiting rooms and anesthetic and sterilizing equipment.

1. Research

   :

• Conduct medical research to aid in controlling and curing diseaseto investigate new medicationsand to develop and test new medical techniques.


• Be thesis guide for fellowsresidents and PhD candidates.

1. Teaching

• Must take part in the ongoing teaching activities.


• Organize workshopsseminarsconferences at localregional and national level.

Candidate Requirements:

• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environmentset prioritiesand work independently and in a team environment.


• Professional oral and written communication skills; must be able to interact and communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organizationas well as communicate with tactdiplomacyand a high level of cultural sensitivity
