We are seeking a capable and hands-on
Vehicle Instrumentation Engineer
to support on-vehicle sensor installation, calibration, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities for heavy commercial vehicles. The role involves extensive test-track work covering braking, vehicle dynamics, and performance validation. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring robust instrumentation, accurate data acquisition, and smooth execution of vehicle tests in demanding truck environments.
Key Responsibilities
Instrumentation Installation
-
Install and integrate vehicle sensors including pressure transducers, wheel speed sensors, accelerometers, pedal force sensors, and brake chamber pressure lines on heavy trucks.
-
Route, secure, and protect wiring harnesses, CAN lines, and power cables in accordance with OEM standards and best practices.
-
Install and securely mount DAQ systems, ECUs, VBOX units, and associated hardware on prototype vehicles.
-
Ensure vibration-resistant, EMC-safe installations suitable for harsh heavy-truck operating conditions.
Commissioning Calibration
-
Configure DAQ systems and VBOX hardware including sensor scaling, sampling rates, CAN IDs, and channel assignments.
-
Perform sensor calibration, zeroing, leak checks, and complete end-to-end signal verification.
-
Conduct pre-test readiness checks to confirm instrumentation integrity and reliability.
Troubleshooting Maintenance
-
Diagnose and resolve instrumentation and electrical issues such as sensor signal dropouts, wheel speed noise, pressure signal instability, CAN communication faults, grounding problems, and EMI/EMC disturbances.
-
Replace or repair faulty sensors, connectors, and harnesses, followed by re-calibration and validation.
-
Maintain detailed logs covering issues, root causes, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
Test Execution Support (Extensive Test Track Work)
-
Support and execute vehicle test-track activities including service brake performance tests, panic braking, ABS validation, VBOX-based performance measurements, and vehicle dynamics tests.
-
Coordinate closely with vehicle validation engineers and test drivers to ensure safe and efficient test execution.
-
Monitor real-time data quality during tests and take immediate corrective actions when required.
Documentation
-
Prepare and maintain commissioning reports, calibration records, wiring diagrams, and issue logs.
-
Update as-built documentation following any instrumentation or hardware modifications.
