Job Description

Overview of the role:

Responsible for driving reinsurance underwriting across cedants, with a focus on portfolio quality, pricing discipline, and compliant underwriting practices that support IIOs profitable and sustainable growth. The role will be based out of Gift City, Gandhinagar

Key responsibilities:

Strengthening the Underwriting Management

  • Risk assessment and placement of profitable lives on the company books.
  • Ensure co-ordination and required oversight between head office UW stakeholders
  • Establish, document and communicate service standards to all concerned stake holders
  • Establish a mechanism for timely and comprehensive resolution of cedant or broker queries and issues.
  • Agree and adhere to SLAs for reinsurance underwriting
  • Set up and review underwriting guidelines and requirements for IIO

Underwriting Management:

  • Jointly oversee the IIO’s underwriting performance with Head office, including profit and loss management, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Implement robust risk management practices to safeguard the IIO’s business and reputation.

Compliance and Regulation:

  • Ensure the branch complies with all extant regulations and internal policies.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and implement necessary adjustments to branch operations
  • Maintain acceptable audit ratings in all Compliance and Audit reviews.

Measures of Success

  • Timely quotes and onboarding of new cedants
  • Quality of portfolio taken on books- Mortality experience
  • TAT adherence with SLAs and compliance for all business lines.
  • Effectiveness of engagements with stakeholders to support business.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in reinsurance
  • Actuarial degree - preferred
  • Proven leadership in managing credit and operational risk at scale.
  • Deep understanding of the Indian financial regulatory landscape
  • Strong experience in working with Risk Committees and Boards
  • Behavioural Competencies: Good Communication Skills, Team Leader, Time management, Creative thinking and problem solving, Business Etiquette.
  • Preferred location: Gandhinagar, Gujarat
