UK Retirement Consultant

This role supports audit engagements by reviewing UK Defined Benefit (DB) pension schemes for compliance with IAS 19 and FRS 102. You will assess the reasonableness and clerical accuracy of actuarial valuations and reports, and test the appropriateness of key actuarial assumptions. The position collaborates closely with the audit Owner and Firm Actuary to resolve technical issues and align on conclusions. You will contribute to planning calls and memos, perform initial reviews of audit materials, and prepare highquality deliverables, including work papers and summary memos, for senior review.

Required Qualifications

• Relevant experience with UK Defined Benefit (DB) pension schemes, including actuarial valuations and pension scheme accounting
• Experience supporting financial reporting under IAS 19 and/or FRS 102
• Familiarity with UK pension legislation, including tranches (e.g., GMP, Excess) and statutory increases
• Ability to review actuarys reports for reasonableness, consistency, and compliance with standards
• Ability to test the appropriateness of actuarial assumptions used in valuations (e.g., discount rate, mortality, salary inflation)
• Experience testing clerical accuracy of actuarial and financial reports
• Ability to perform initial review of audit materials and prepare work papers and memos
• Capacity to collaborate with audit Owner and Firm Actuary to resolve technical issues
• Basic understanding of surplus recognition in pension schemes
• Awareness of typical options in UK DB schemes (transfer values, early/late retirement, pension increases, augmentation, additional dependent pension, guarantees)

Responsibilities

• Support audit teams reviewing UK DB pension schemes for compliance with IAS 19 and FRS 102
• Test clerical accuracy of actuarial and financial reports and tieouts
• Review actuary’s reports for reasonableness, consistency, and compliance with relevant standards
• Test the appropriateness of actuarial assumptions used in pension scheme valuations
• Participate in planning calls and contribute to planning memos for audit engagements
• Perform initial review of all pensionrelated audit materials and identify issues/queries
• Collaborate with the audit Owner and Firm Actuary (FA) to resolve technical issues and document conclusions
• Prepare final deliverables, including memos and work papers, for senior review
